This question has been on the minds of both consumers and manufacturers alike for some time now. As Apple releases a new iPhone, Samsung goes and releases a new and improved version of their phone as well, the new one more impressive than the previous one. Let’s examine a few points to see if the Samsung Galaxy 3 has really toppled Apple’s iPhone.
Nobody can argue that since its inception, Apple has been releasing gadgets with futuristic designs. They are way ahead of their time. Since then, other manufacturers have tried to follow suit with little success. It was only recently that manufacturers were able to keep up and consumers have since enjoyed the variety in designs that are regularly released.
The very first iPhone truly was impressive. It was sleek and stylish and everybody from techies to fashionistas just had to have one. Then Samsung released their Galaxy line of phones. Everybody knows the legal battle that ensued between Apple and Samsung regarding the phone’s design. Let’s not go into the nitty-gritty of things but in this category, the iPhone takes the cake.
The iPhone 4 disappointed a lot of people with its antenna problems. Call quality was poor and kept dropping. The iPhone 4S was slightly better. On the other end of the spectrum, the Galaxy 3 has good calling quality. There is no voice distortion or background noise. The speakerphone performs nicely as well. So yes, Samsung wins.
The iPhone’s screen measures 3.5 inches. It still retains the clarity, detail and vibrant colors that we are familiar with. The Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8 inch display screen. Pixel density is only 309ppi but it does not make a difference really when you can comfortably view your videos or photos on a big screen.
The iPhone still houses a dual-core A5 chip while Samsung Galaxy S3 already sports a quad-core processor.
As for storage, the iPhone comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The Galaxy S3 is the same but it also offers expandable storage through a micro SD card and the free 50GB Dropbox cloud storage. The iPhone has the iCloud capability but it still pales in comparison to what the Galaxy S3 has to offer.
The iOS 5 has a lot of major improvements and new features such as Siri. By now everybody knows what Siri is and it is undoubtedly a work in progress. But it is quite useful. The Android 4.0 also comes with some voice activated commands and a bunch of features that are just really add-ons or enhancements of the regular ones.
The 4S camera is now 8 megapixels resulting to clearer and crisper photos. A lot of people are saying that this can replace your regular point and shoot camera. Even the video quality is good. You can play your video on a TV and it will still look good.
The Galaxy S3 camera is also 8 megapixels. It can take continuous shots in burst mode and picks the best shot out of the bunch. It also has Face Zoom, allowing you to pick out a face in a crowd.
The camera aspect of this competition is really dependent on the user. Some say that the iPhone is better while the others say it’s the S3. So it’s really up to the user and how he or she uses the camera.
There are still more points of comparison but at the end of the day, it’s really up to the user to choose which one he or she will buy. Considerations such as purpose and lifestyle are key factors to deciding which phone is the best. These are two phones that are worth the price. It seems that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a more powerful phone than the iPhone but the iPhone is a foundation and no one can deny its following. If you look at the statistics, iPhone still dominates the smartphone market. Maybe 4S is not a worthy opponent; after all it is still a version 4. Let’s wait for the iPhone 5 or perhaps another Galaxy version.
